In the old days, a business card was all you needed to communicate who you were and how you could be reached.

It’s not so simple anymore.

Luckily, there’s a free tool that makes it easy for you to create an online profile or email signature that captures everything most consumers will want to know about you.

retaggr is a simple tool that allows you to create a profile (essentially, an online business card) with links to your website, blog, Facebook profile, Twitter account, email address and any other point of contact you have online. This profile can then be easily embedded into your own website or blog.

retaggr profiles are also great to use as email signatures. Showing prospects and customers that you have an active presence online is a real differentiator.

Of course, retaggr is best used if you are already active online. So if you have not created accounts on Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter or other online communities, we encourage you to do so!

What it does: Allows you to create an online profile badge that you can embed in your website or blog or an amazing email signature that highlights all your online activities.

How to use it: Respond to all inquiries and leads with your new email signature and immediately differentiate yourself as a pro who gets it.

Monday Morning Mojo: The Ax vs. the Sledgehammer

Whack, whack, goes the dull ax against the tree making dents instead of deep, sharp, cuts.

In life how often do we experience this?  Instead of taking the time to slow down and sharpen our ax so we can be more productive, we find ourselves in a hurry to get things done by pounding away at our problems and tasks with a dull blade yielding the same result as the solid surface of a sledgehammer – dents not cuts.

If we would just take the time to slow down and sharpen our ax, not only would our trees get chopped down faster, but it would require a whole lot less effort.  And in the end, we would actually get more trees chopped down and have more time to spend in the other areas of our life that we are neglecting. Sometimes we get so consumed with getting stuff done that we don’t slow down long enough to educate ourselves and evaluate what we can do to be more efficient and effective.  This applies to everything in life – business, finances, relationships, faith, health, etc.

So my advise is take the time to sharpen your ax, your skills, and your mind.  Continuously learn, grow and try new things. Ultimately it will make your life easier and you will become more productive at a quicker pace. And remember a sharp ax cuts through a tree swiftly and with ease, as opposed to a sledgehammer which only makes a dent.

Intero Cool Apps: Add live chat to your website or blog – for free

meebo-icona1According to the California Association of REALTORS® 2009 survey of homebuyers, 36% of consumers expect agents to respond instantly to inquiries.

That’s a pretty tough expectation to meet.

But Meebo, an online “live chat” or instant message application, makes it just a little easier.

You may be familiar with instant messaging, and use services like AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger or Google Talk on your computer.

Meebo works the same way, but allows you to place live chat on your own website or blog so that any visitor can reach you instantly whenever you are online.

To set Meebo up on your website or blog, you will need to create and install the Meebo widget (a widget is just a small internet tool or program). Doing this is remarkably easy – it’s just a matter of copying and pasting the widget code. If you are not comfortable doing this, your Webmaster will be.

Once set up, the Meebo widget requires no maintenance. Visitors can chat with you anytime you are online.

And the best thing of all? It’s completely free!

What it does: Allows you to add live chat or instant message to your website or blog.

How to use it:
Put the Meebo widget on your website or blog and never miss another lead!

Monday Morning Mojo: Stuffing Twenty Pounds Into a Five Pound Bag

Do you know anyone who prides themselves on their ability to stuff twenty pounds into a five pound bag?  They think they can get more done and do it better than anyone else.  They pack their schedule and to-do list full, scrambling from one appointment to the next, from the moment they wake up until the moment they go to bed.  Their mantra of “That is what you have to do to be successful. Never waist time and always pack your schedule” is misdirected.

I hate to say it, but I often find myself doing the same thing.  However, I’ve learned when you pack your schedule with no room to breath, you have to be VERY careful.  I say this because you know what happens when you stuff twenty pounds into a five pound bag?  It bursts open. Its contents spill out all over the floor. What I’ve found, more often than not, the person doing the stuffing doesn’t take the time to clean up the mess. They leave it for someone else to deal with.  This leads to the ‘stuffer’ experiencing poor communication, lack of planning, anger and frustration, lack of respect for the others, anxiety, and impatience.

This overflow ultimately ends up affecting the most important people their lives. Sadly, it isn’t realized until it is too late and life comes crashing down.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not your ticket to sit down and be lazy.  It’s important to be efficient and get things done. And it’s also important to continue to keep focused on your goals taking actions everyday so you can attain those goals. Don’t forget there is a big difference between quantity and quality. Too often people confuse being “busy” with being “efficient”.  Everyday I see people who appear to be working hard, 8-12 hours a day.  But when you examine their routine, their processes, their focus, you will notice they are really only productive for a small portion of that time. The balance of their day is spent on unimportant activities, and socializing allowing extra work to fill their time. They end up feeling busy when they really aren’t. These activities do not bring them closer to the goals they want to achieve.

In essence cutting out all their “busy” work, would shorten their day significantly. Wouldn’t that be great to work less hours and actually produce more?

Once efficiency is achieved my suggestion would be to spend your new found time cleaning up the overflow in your life, giving the necessary time to help grow your relationships with the friends, family and colleagues around you. Attending to the extra fifteen pounds inside your five-pound bag will train you to one day stay within your five pound limit and stop you from a lifetime of creating spillover.

Cleaning up will give you more time to work on your communication with your family, friends and coworkers. Your patience will increase because you will have more time on your hands. Irritability will vanish.  When you achieve balance life is happy, positive, and efficient. Consequently you get much more “accomplished”.  Notice I said you get more “accomplished,” I did not say you get more “done,” that’s because there is a difference.

So this week make a change – stuff ten, instead of twenty pounds in that five pound bag and spend the rest of the time cleaning up your mess and all the while making sure your bag does not rip.

Make it a GREAT week!!!!!

animoto-the-end-of-slideshowsIt’s hard to merchandize a listing these days in a way that will impress sellers and present a compelling picture to buyers.

Animoto, a new application that turns ordinary digital photos into astonishingly good “videos,” gives you a new weapon in your marketing arsenal.

You can view a sample and watch a video on how it works here.

All you need to do to create an Animoto video is upload photos from your computer. If you want music to go with your video, you can choose from a large selection of tracks. Animoto will then analyze your photos and music and automatically create a video that’s totally unique. No two Animoto videos are the same.

You can then email your video, or embed it in your website or blog.

Animoto is free for unlimited short videos. If you want to do longer videos, or want to create DVD quality presentations, the fee is $249 per year. But in most cases, you’ll find the free version does the trick.

Now go dazzle some sellers!

Monday Morning Mojo: Small changes, big impact

Good Morning MOJO,

This morning I would like to share how even the smallest changes in life compounded can make a huge impact.

Choose to brew your own cup of coffee in the morning instead of hitting Starbucks or Peets and you will save around $3 a day, approximately $1,100 a year.  Continue with this change for 20 years at an 8% compounded rate of return and you will have saved over $50,000.

Bring a PB&J on wheat and a piece of fruit for lunch to work, instead of going to Baja Fresh or In-and-Out Burger.  Not only do you add 10 years to your life, but you save $8 a day, approximately $2,000 a year.  Again, continue with this change for 20 years and invest it at an 8% compounded rate of return, and you will bank close to $100,000.

Drink water instead of those chemically loaded drinks everyday.  Not only will you add 10 more years to your life, but you will save $5 a day, which becomes about $2,000 over a year.  Keep this up for 20 years at an 8% compounded rate of return and you will have saved another $100,000.

If you impart the above 3 small changes everyday (each having very little impact on your day-to-day life) over a 20 year period, you would save over a quarter million dollars. Continue for 10 more years, making it 30 years, and you will save near $600,000!  If you can discipline yourself to do just these few small things, not only would you be healthier, but will potentially live decades longer and will put over half a million bucks in the bank.  All just because you brew your own pot of joe, make your lunch and drink water.  Go figure.  Seems too simple, doesn’t it?

I challenge you to evaluate your life and make additional small changes, applying these same principles to your business, relationships, health, faith, etc. It is the discipline to continue with your changes, day-in and day-out, over a long period of time which creates success.

Remember, it is simple to do and it is simple not to do. It’s your choice.

Make it a powerful week,

Tom

Intero Cool Apps: Drop.io makes online collaboration easy… for free!

drop_io_logo_blogjpg-jpeg-image-496x356-pixels1This week’s Cool App: Drop.io

How many times have you tried to email a document to a client that was so large it never left your outbox? How many hours did you spend last year standing over a fax machine?

Drop.io, a new online file sharing and collaboration tool, dispenses with those problems completely.

Here’s how it works: Go to Drop.io (yes, weird web address – there’s no “.com,” just “.io”) and follow the steps to create a “Drop.” A Drop is a place online – essentially a small website – to which you can upload documents, photos, movies and more.

Once you upload your files, you can share your Drop with everyone or set up a password and grant only selected people access. You and your viewers can comment on every file in your Drop and can, if you like, share them on Facebook, Twitter and other online communities.

How to use Drop.io in your real estate business

You can probably see the practical applications already, but consider these ideas:

  • Set up a Drop for every transaction as a central hub for all your vendors and your clients
  • Let clients make comments and ask questions about documents and disclosures online
  • Create a Drop for photos, flyers and videos of a listing; advertise the Drop’s web address in your marketing

The bottom line

Drop.io is completely free for Drops up to 100 megabytes (this is enough for most real estate related purposes). If for some reason you need more space, you’ll pay a small fee.

Monday Morning Mojo

Good Morning MOJO

The more I have thought about it, the more that I realized that what is holding us back most in life is not what I thought.  So, what is it really?

What stops us from being healthy, stops us from being successful at our job, stops us from having great relationships, stops us from being happy, stops us from being fulfilled, causes us to be victims? What is stopping us from getting what we want in life? It is the thing that holds us back from making the necessary changes in our life, and it is not fear of change.

This has been a consistent topic in Monday Morning MOJO because change is the key to getting what we want most, but it is the one thing most of us are not willing to do, no matter what.  People are literally willing to die instead of change. That is why I keep pounding on it. That is why I keep trying to find the key to opening up the lock of change.

In many past Mojo’s I have written about “fear of change” as being one of our major road blocks to success, but the more I see and the more I experience, it is pretty clear that in most cases it is really not “fear of change” that is holding us back.  We say it is “fear of change,” because in some way that is almost acceptable.  If someone is fearful of something it is understandable and almost acceptable that they will not change as it is really tough to overcome our fears.  However, saying we are not successful at something in life because we are fearful is a copout.  For the most part, the real reason people don’t change and improve their circumstances, is we are plain old too LAZY to change!

Think about what it is you are struggling with in life .What it is that you want?  Why is it that you are not getting it?  Is it fear of change or is it because you are too lazy to change? Honestly?

I wish I knew the formula to eliminating laziness and I could put it in a bottle.  If I had it I would be worth a Trillion dollars. Yes a Trillion dollars.  Think about it — laziness causes obesity, many cancers, poverty, divorce, addiction, war, unhappiness…it causes death.  Yet people are still just too lazy to change.

So, if laziness is my problem, where do I start?  The first step to overcoming almost anything in life is to admit it.  It does not matter what it is albeit  addiction, obesity, poor relationships, etc.  The first step to success and breaking through is admitting the truth.  I am just too lazy too. We have to quit hiding behind fear, circumstances, others, etc. and admit we are just too lazy to change.  Then we will be on our way.

Make it a powerful week and don’t be too lazy to do what you need to do to
