Wednesday Wellness:24 hours of being dead

The other day I read a joke where the Doctor was asking his patient, “What works best in your schedule: 1 hour of exercise a day or 24 hours of being dead?” I laughed, but what a powerful statement and one that really isn’t that funny!

We all have this option, but we fool ourselves into thinking it won’t happen to us. There are thousands of studies about the importance of exercise and increasing the quality and longevity of life…yet so many of us choose to believe it’s not that important!

The American College of Sports Medicine recommends a minimum of 30 minutes (vigorous) exercise 5 days a week. Nearly 70 % of American’s don’t get this in! That is tragic!

If there was a way you could carve out even 30 minute of light exercise, you’d be ahead of most of the nation! Not only will you create a healthier body, but a healthier state of mind!

I know it’s hard and I know our days are already so crammed packed. But let me ask you: What you have time for, exercise several times a week, or 24 hours of…well, you know…

Monday Mojo: What would you do with $86,400 a day?

If you received $86,400 every day of your life and you had to spend it or lose it by the end of each day, what would you do? Would you let the $86,400 just slip through your fingers and not worry about it if you did not spend it all? Would you invest it wisely? Would you give some to charity or your church, to your family, to your friends? Would you invest it in your F-5…your Faith, Family, Friends, Fitness, Finance/Business? Would you become a fanatic about putting together your plan RIGHT NOW to make sure you did not waste a single cent? Of course we all would not waste one red cent, would we?

So that is what we would do with money. What about your time? We all have 86,400 seconds in everyday. How are you spending it? Have you been a fanatic about putting together your plan and executing on it so you don’t waste a second? Remember, every day we are either going to use it or we are going to lose it. Put together your plan and execute on making sure you are investing every second of your life in your F-5. Just as important, remember we all only have 86,400 seconds in a day, so respect other people’s time as well…don’t waste a second of their time either.

Cheers,

Here is a great song from Chris Allen that drives it home:

Monday Mojo: Amy’s Inspiration

It’s been 4 years since my cousin Amy passed away from breast cancer at the age of 41. In the final year of her life she received Monday Morning MOJO every week and loved it. We shared thoughts back and forth via e-mail many times after I would send it. This is the MOJO I wrote after she passed away on my flight back home from her memorial service. I have made a commitment to send this out as a Monday Morning MOJO every year at this time as a tribute to Amy and her life. I think there are great thoughts in this MOJO that one can never hear too often.

I walked into my home on Saturday night from one of the most emotionally draining experiences of my life.

Attending and presenting a reading at the funeral of my 41 year-old cousin, Amy.

Amy was beautiful, healthy and living the American dream. She had a storybook marriage and two beautiful daughters (12 and 14) when tragedy struck sixteen months ago.

In the words of her daughter, “It was a clear blue spring day – well, at least it was outside, because inside it was raining. We felt sadness and disbelief from the bad news. Not just regular bad news – but the kind where your life seems to fall apart in just two simple minutes. We listened closely to mother as she whispered, ‘Its cancer,’ and immediately feelings of shock, anger, and fear rushed through us all.”

Under her tears her daughter said faintly “Just never lose faith. Nobody knows what it’s like until it happens to them. And when it’s YOUR Mom how you view the world begins to change. You look at the mountains and now see their magnificence, just as seeing my Mom smile became everything to me. I started to appreciate life so much more. During those final months we would spend time gazing at the night sky, and I treasure everyday what she would say, ‘I love you more than all of the stars in the sky.’ Looking back at how it used to be, and how it would have been, and how it’s going to be without her by my side – truly it will never be the same.”

Her words I repeated over and over in my mind. It felt as though someone had shook me – forcing my eyes open to see the world for what it really it was. Forcing me to take a hard look at the ultimate truth, the truth that has the power to wake us up and make us live before it’s too late.

“Amy is gone,” the truth told me quietly, “and someday you will be, and so will all the people you love – it’s just a matter of time.”

So I ask you – are you doing what you want to do right now with your life, or are you putting off living your hopes and dreams because you think there will always be a tomorrow? If my cousin were here she’d tell you differently, she’d say “there will come a time when tomorrow doesn’t come, and you are wasting your time if you are not loving and laughing and enjoying your days now, while you can.”

This leaves us with a choice – we can delete this message because we find it too depressing, or we can let this message be a force that pushes us over the tipping point into the life we dream of. That is most often what it takes, something so strong it carries us past our fears and doubts and the terrors that come when we think about finally doing the things we’ve been dreaming about for so long.

Let Amy be your inspiration this morning. And realize she had a great life, doing the things she loved, with the people she loved – and she would want you to do the same.

I’ve heard it all; it’s just not possible, I’ve got obligations, responsibilities, and don’t forget the economy, and of course the - I can’t just DO what I want – I’ve got a job, bills, yada yada yada…

All those excuses mean nothing when your time comes, and who knows when that might be. All I know is the days are passing quickly and now is the time to do what YOU KNOW you need to do. Don’t put if off, or you may just be too late.

We will miss you Amy.

Monday Mojo: Make Them Proud

Don’t we all love a three day weekend?!

But don’t forget why we have this three day weekend. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868, over 140 years ago. Today, Memorial Day, we all need to pay respect, honor, and remember those who died defending us. Think about it, they died so we could have the life and opportunities we have today.

So, today as we remember those who gave up their lives so we could have ours, here is the question we need to ask ourselves: would those who’ve died so we could live, say it was all worthwhile if they were to be with you today, to see how you are living your life and to see how you are making a difference?

Don’t let them down. Make them proud of what you do and the difference you are making in this life. Make the most of it. They gave their lives so we could too!

So, when things aren’t going our way, when we are tired, and when the going gets tough, close your eyes and think of them. Ask yourself, what advice would they give me? Would they think it is so tough? Would they tell you to give up, hit the snooze bar and stay in bed a little longer and make excuses? Is that what they would have done? I don’t think so. What do you think? I’m sure they would gladly trade places with you!

We owe them giving it our ABSOLUTE BEST!!!!!!!

Monday Mojo: Masterminding Your Way to Success

This week, I’m pleased to bring to you some “guest MOJO”, from our very own J. Shoop.

Many of you know of J. Shoop as a top-producing loan officer with LoanSource/Intero Mortgage, but you may not know that he is also a Certified LifeSuccess Consultant, licensed to teach the coaching material produced by Bob Proctor. (You may recall Bob Proctor from the highly-acclaimed movie, The Secret).

We welcome J’s insights for this week’s installment of Monday Morning MOJO!

Contributing writer – J.Shoop

Recently, I was having a conversation with one of Intero’s founders, Tom Tognoli, and we were discussing the benefits of participating in a Mastermind group. We agreed that many are missing out on the benefits of masterminding because they either lack a clear understanding of what a Mastermind group is, or they simply don’t know how to find one to join.

The common definition of masterminding is “The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”

But what does that really mean?

Super Bowl Sunday is coming soon. If you think about it, a football team is really a sort of Mastermind group. When all of a team’s knowledge and effort is combined in a spirit of harmony, working toward a definite purpose, their odds of winning increase significantly. A sense of magic or destiny is often created, and the team appears to be “in the zone”.

Contrast that approach with a less-successful team, say the Raiders (hey, I’m a fan so don’t hate on me!) – But let’s look at their results… For many years they have shown that having elite, talented individuals is not enough. They may all share the same goal (to win a Super bowl), but internally they suffer from their own self-created chaos.

When you are lacking in harmony, you won’t win, no matter how badly you may want to. Or if by chance you do win, the wins will be inconsistent and unsustainable.

So how can we apply this awareness in our lives and businesses?

The idea of masterminding is certainly not new, but it’s probably the most misunderstood and most under-utilized concept in business today. The primary benefit of participation is connecting with a select group of like-minded people interested in helping you succeed.

You’ve likely heard the expression before that “two heads are better than one”. This is because there is a unique energy created when two or more like-minded individuals are connected, and this synergy can be quite powerful.

Mastermind groups bring resources and connections into your world that you would have never had access to on your own. Additionally, you benefit from differing perspectives, input, and feedback, combined with accountability and inspiration, enabling you to maintain focus on the achievement of your goals.

In our lives careers, we are usually solely responsible for our results. Subsequently, we often feel that we need to do everything by ourselves. Yet intrinsically we know that no significant achievements are ever accomplished without the help of others.

And let’s face it. Business can be hard. We sometimes get so wrapped up in the details and the day-to-day “stuff” that we often miss opportunities for valuable feedback that could make an enormous positive impact in our lives and in our careers.

As a benefit to your subscription to Monday Morning Mojo, I’ve put together a Mastermind Coaching series that is available to you at NO CHARGE. (MOJO has picked up the tab.)

We’ll help you to focus on your goals while educating you on the information and principles contained in the book “You Were Born Rich” by Bob Proctor, and introduce you to other authors, lecturers, and speakers who’ve written about these subjects.

For more information on how you can participate in an upcoming Mastermind group:

Send an email today at jshoop@jshoop.com, with Mastermind Coaching in the subject line. We have several time slots available, and we’ll email you some dates for you to choose from. You can participate from anywhere, as we have both live and teleconferencing options available.

I’m looking forward to helping you to further develop your MOJO in 2010!
